There are a number of attractions which are unique in Malaysia and a trip to Genting Highlands is one of them. Just remember there are plenty of other things to see and do - these where the highlights of my trip. Genting Highlands day trip. There are a number of 'highlands' in Malaysia for example the Cameron Highlands but I wasn't interested in visiting again since I've been there before I decided to go to the complete opposite the Genting Highlands. There is nothing classically historical about Genting Highlands. It is basically a entertainment zone or theme park and casino zone. It's the only legal one the country. Located high up in the mountains it happens to be one of the best motorcycle and car driving roads in the country. On public holidays Genting Highlands is really busy so I recommend going on a weekday or Sunday if you want a less crowded experience. Unfortuantely I went of a public holiday which meant the huge crowds. Getting to Genting Highlands is painless if you take the bus from the KL central station (Puduraya). Make sure your ticket includes the cable car pass since you'll need to take one to get to the top. The bus doesn't go to the top. However you can still buy tickets at the bus stop. I can't remember how much the tickets cost all up but I guess it was under 10RM?? The trip takes about an hour, including the cable car ride to get to the top. The Genting Highland complex is quite large and the food there costs the same as that in KL restaurants and food halls. It also tastes quite good too! Since it is quite high up the temperatures are cool and you won't need a jumper. There are great vistas if you get there on a clear day. You can even see KL if you there are the right time, or rather wait for the right time for the clouds to clear. For those familiar with Las Vegas it certainly doesn't compare, I guess nothing else in the world compares to Vegas. So as long as you don't expect that level of flashiness Genting should be fine. Aside from the casino the theme park is very large and full of rides for you and the kids. So if you want a easy day trip on a very windy mountain road then this is one place you should check out. You don't have to go to the casino or the theme park - I just looked but didn't partake - probably because it was way too busy for my liking. Picture caption: The picture was taken from the cable car going to Genting Highlands. The yellow and red cable car in this picture go to the Chinese temple on another mountain. The cable cars that go to Genting are much smaller! I've got much better ones but I though this one was unique?
