2016 New computer and other stuff – Part 2

Success! I found a new computer.

This time it isn’t a laptop or convertible but a desktop tower box PC. The only reason I purchased it was price vs specification. The new computer is not the latest model but a run-out model priced under $700 AUD which will receive this week.

The rationale for a desktop was interesting as that wasn’t what I was initially after, but a lot can happen in a week … As I used the Microsoft Surface Pro (Original model) it met all my requirements for a highly portable PC. Combined with the keyboard the Surface Pro proved that a small 10 inch screen can be comfortably used for 95% of what I needed. I’ve always treated the Surface as a ‘spare’ computer and it has served it’s purpose perfectly. So I really didn’t need another laptop even a convertible one I guess.

The HP Pavilion 500-407a Desktop PC was what I bought! and the following are the key specifications.

CPU: Intel Quad Core i7 (Haswell) 4790 3.6 GHz – turbo boost to 4.0 GHz
Memory: 8G DDR3
Graphics: Radeon R7 240 2G onboard and Intel HD Graphics 4600 GT2
Sound: Integrated IDT 92HD65C
Media: 1TB HD and DVD and memory card reader
Network: Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi and LAN sockets
OS: Windows 8.1 free upgrade to Windows 10

I’ll do a quick review of the HP next week!
