2017 Honda CBR1000RR SP and SP2 Fireblade

Honda CBR1000RR SP and SP2

The latest release from Honda Motorcycles for 2017 is the updated CBR1000RR SP and SP2. Both are ultimate versions of the regular CBR1000RR Fireblade, the SP version is for aspiration buyers and the SP2 is for the these who are aspirating track racers and the homologation version. I’ve always liked the Fireblade concept of high power in a small frame back in the late 1980’s especially enjoyed the over hyped magazine based motorcycle reviewers back then and others who where just not able to handle the bike back then!

The Honda CBR1000RR SP2 in particular was built for the World Superbike Championship which requires a limited number of actual race bikes that can be purchased privately, just like in the 1990’s again. There are only going to be 500 of the CBR1000RR SP2 worldwide so you understand the expense and the price is $35,000 AUD.

So what is the difference between the regular CBR1000RR Fireblade, the CBR1000RR SP and SP2 – engine tuning, lots of adjustable modes, Marchesini Aluminum wheels, Brembo braking systems, Ohlins electronic suspension system and tyre choice. The weight reduction of 15Kgs by a sitting of a titanium fuel tank, Lithium battery, smaller radiator, lighter aluminium subframe, magensium engine covers, thinner plastics, lighter screws and more! The most noticeable visible change is the exposed frame on the SP and SP2 Vs the blacked out ones on the regular CBR1000RR.

The difference between the CBR1000RR SP and CBR1000RR SP2  appear to be the Marchesini wheels and revised cylinder head valves and other required components. However I’m guessing that the majority of the price difference between the SP and SP2 are those wheels!

If you want to own part of history then you can’t go past the CBR1000RR SP Fireblade however for bragging rights the CBR1000RR SP2 Fireblade is the one to buy.
