Megelli Sport 250R Review

Welcome to the Megelli Sport 250R review. Like me you may not have heard this manufacturer before, so I had to do some research! Essentially the ‘manufacturer’ or brand is not your traditional motorcycle company. What I believe is that the the company is Britsh and designed this bike but licenses the design to outsourced companies to put together, specifically China. (Thanks the seemingly cheap chinese branded tyres. Megelli motorcycles are available in most parts of the world including North America!

Regardless of who or where the motorcycle is made the obvious fact is that the Megelli Sport 250R is one of the best looking 250cc motorcycle on sale to date, yes slightly better than the Yamaha YZF-R125. (Pre-KTM and Aprilia reviews) The quality of the parts is very good and how it was put together seemed very good as I couldn’t see anything that was poorly fitted! The overall design could easily be confused as something from an Italian design house say Ducati at its peak of design prowess in the mid 1990’s to mid-2000. (Don’t get me started on where Ducati started getting it wrong…) 

In terms of the engines the Sport 250 R uses, I assume that based on an existing manufacturer presumably Chinese is yet to be revealed. However the 250cc single cylinder is reportedly pretty good in terms of power and torque outputs and clearly on the level with other single  cylinder 250cc motorcycles.  That said I have been sent three spec sheets and then had to check the website to see which one was claimed to be correct – and still not really sure…

Based on other reviews the Megelli’s great looks don’t match its on road performance which many claim to be due to the side stand and poor choice of tyres which is a pity – that said until I actually get a ride I can’t comment any further about that. Long term reliability is also a question mark.

Overall the Megelli 250 R seems like THE perfect sports style 250cc  however since it does not have a pedigree or very much specific information about it like long or short term reliability which is the key factor in this class of motorcycle. I guess it would be up to the dealer or forums to satisfy your need for more details. I can only recommend it based on looks and design which is fantastic – along with the relatively cheap price it has everything going for a purchase.
