Foundation Galactic Frontier – T4 Combat Craft – SunSpot Zu

Welcome to the next chapter of my ongoing review series for Foundation: Galactic Frontier (August 2026). In this part, I’m taking a closer look at the Tier 4 Combat Craft — the Sunspot Zu, a starfighter equipped with Beam‑based weaponry. As the next upgrade in the combat craft progression, the Raven stands above the T1 Spindle K93, T2 Gazer G21 and T3 Solar Flare 32, offering stronger technical specification.

The Combat Crafts are the ‘fighter spacecraft’ that you can build on your flagship, the Gram, Dermezel, Opportunity and Gungnir. There is a Flagship hangar facility that you can develop th em and where they are stored. The Combat Craft mechanic is heavily built into the overall game play and it is important that you build and upgrade them. Note that while they add to your overall power stat these are disposable in battle so you need to keep building and repairing them. 

The Tier 4 Combat Craft — Sunspot Zu is the first of the Tier 4 class of combat craft with Beam weapon specialisation. The upgrade is noticeable as you can see from the stats below. Once again there isn’t a story to this particular ship that I could read in the game.  However as the name implies the Sunspot Zu is  fairly similar to Sun Zu aka the author credited for writing the Art of War.  The T4 Combat Craft specifications are affected by the the level of your Flag ship, Research centre (tech tree) and the level of your guild and many more! 

In terms of design the Sunspot Zu resembles a beetle with the front ring a little odd. It is an interesting design, noticeably different to the designs that came before it. Unfortunately it is not one of my favourite designs.  

The T4 Combat Craft – Sunspot Zu tech specifications like firepower and durability are dependent on your character own level, flagship level, tech tree status and guild level. The key feature is that it belongs to the Beam class hence uses Beam  weapons aka lasers or energy weapons. Beam ships are good against Kinetic but not so great against Ion classed ships,  

I’m still enjoying the game but also noticing the griding aspect of the game mechanics more. The special events in Foundation Galactic Frontier are getting largely pointless as they require real money and the events only lasts 7 days.
