Honda WN7

July 2026 welcomes the showroom release of Honda’s first purely electric motorcycle. Honda WN7. This is not their first ‘electric motorcycle having made scooters and novelty models over the years. But finally a ‘proper’ fully electric motorcycle.

 The marketing material claims to ‘Be  the wind, listen to the sounds of nature and feel the earth’ and all the benefits and characteristics of an electric motor. Of course you are missing the sound of a tradition engine which is why many first started riding. The WN model name is arguably derived from this marketing line. Whether electric motorcycles are the future is a topic for another post.

In terms of design the WN7 looks just like other electric motorcycles, with a battery box like ‘frame’ in place of the engine. Of course there are design challenges that Honda have overcome to make it ride like an traditional petrol engine motorcycle. The nice addition purely for styling is the single sided rear wing arm. Overall it looks like a modern sport motorcycle electric or otherwise. The ‘Duracell’ colour scheme is an interesting design inspiration.  

In terms of  performance and technical specification the Honda WN7  does not come with any obvious class leading features. I am assuming it is in the level of advanced materials and/or software advancement are the thing you can’t really portray fully on a spec sheet. The motor is at 50Kw which is plenty for a motorcycle that weighs around 200kg but the immediacy of an electric motor means you can access that perform easily. The torque factor is 100Nm all the time unless you have selected a different drive mode. Performance overall is similar to a 600cc motorcycle according to the press release. 

Other tech details includes the usual Honda connectivity suite, so you have Bluetooth comms, security and navigation. Honda has equipped it with the CCS2 connection so you can use car charging stations for quick charging. The screen however is a little disappointing as it is a little small, expectations I guess. The handle bar controls are back lit and there is battery regen braking and also equipped with low speed reverse up to 5km. Note that it doesn’t have a clutch lever because it does not have any gears.

The Honda WN7 is a good start for the manufacturer in the electric class. However the WN7 may be a little too generic in terms of specification to standout. In order to rationalise, electric vehicles are high performance for very little overall cost as an electric motorcycle that rides (pun intended) on the tails of electric cars. It would be very easy for Honda to simply max performance to make a statement but clearly not marketing friendly due to other higher performance truly sports motorcycles. On a positive note the WN7 doesn’t cost as much as I would have expected and compares will with other electric motorcycles. 

Update: September 2026: Although the WN7 can be purchased in European market it will only be available via a lease arrangement in the Australian Market. Visit your local dealer if you are still interested.
