Kawasaki Ninja Z e-1
For 2024 Kawasaki have made and released their first and proper electric motorcycle the e-1 series. There are two models in the e-1 range and the Z model pictured here is the semi-naked version that is supposed to be part of the Z series of street fighters…
In terms of looks the Kawasaki Z e-1 is remarkably similar to any other semi-faired small capacity motorcycle. The only thing you’ll notice is the design of the engine block which is not a regular internal combustion engine. However the overall design shouldn’t have the Z in it to be completely honest as it does not look like a proper Z bike – at all.
In terms of technology the Z e-1 scores top marks since it is fully electric. There are a few interesting features like the modular dual battery packs that you can remove and they are swappable so they can be charged away from the bike, regenerative braking, a reverse ‘gear’ and phone connectivity. The final drive is via a motorcycle style chain so there is some inefficiency…
The Kawasaki Z e-1 is a step forward in the increasingly electrified world. It may not happen in the near future but it will eventually happen as technology related to batteries and motors improve. However as is the Kawasaki Z e-1 is a slow motorcycle with limited range and hence limited appeal.
