Kawasaki Z900

Kawasaki Z900

The Kawasaki Z900 is an update to the Z800 which both are essentially the cheaper versions of the Z1000. However there is more to the historically important Z900 badge which hasn’t been forgotten, hence the availability of the Z900RS edition.

The Z series have been important to Kawasaki. It represented their sports and high powered motorcycle models all the way to the 1980’s before the ZZR or the Ninja branding replaced it. The Z900 is also used as their retro model known as the Z900RS which is their retro aka cafe racer version. However that is only in terms os styling as the engine and technical spec is throughly modern. In fact the Z900RS is very popular as a new motorbike and does feature in the 2018 top ten list selling 315 units that year. Mind you 2018 was the first year of the release only time will tell if it remains in the list. The regular Z900 pictured here has all been updated with less cladding, sportier bikini fairing design and more coloured highlights on the naked parts. To be completely honest the regular Z900 looks good but I think the Z900RS looks better.

Kawasaki Z900 Vs Z900RS: Due purely to their exterior design I don’t think many will cross shop. If you will want a value for money modern  naked motorbike then the Z900 is the choice else there is the retro cafe racer in the Z900RS. Interestingly the RS version has been retuned for a more retro feel and by all accounts better than the regular Z900.

The Z900 is priced around $12,500 and the Z900RS is pried around $16,500 which is quite a large difference but there are more differences that make the retro bike cost more than just styling. Differences on the surface include LED lights, ABS, TCS,  suspension, higher quality parts like engine covers and unseen retro tuning.

In 2019 I would buy the Z900RS over the Z900 purely due to looks and bonus technical differences. However if I couldn’t afford the $4000 extra for the RS the Z900 would satisfy too, but that also means number of other models like the Yamaha’s to compare against at that price.
