Strange names: I-ELOOP for Mazda 6

Reasonably fresh PR material from Mazda this week!

I-ELOOP is a new system developed by Mazda debuting in the all new Mazda 6 for 2013. It’s a complementary system to the regular car battery where extra power is stored in a capacitor for use when the car’s stop start system is being used. So while the engine is not running when at traffic light for example the rest of the Mazda’s electronics will still work at full power eg. stereo system and air-conditioning. They are using capacitor technology because existing car battery technology cannot cope with rapid discharge and quick recharging cycles. It appears to be a reasonably ‘cheap’ solution to a problem when the engine is not running.

There are plenty of different ways that car manufacturers are installing petrol and/or energy saving technlogy in cars in 2013. This is another proven method already used by computers and stereo systems just to name a few where this technology exists. Sure its been subject to a recall due to the threat of fire however this implementation is on a much bigger scale. I_ELOOP reportedly saves fuel consumption by 10% in many circumstances.  Don’t think we’ll ever see this tech in motorcycles…

Interesting – or do you want more sales figures?
