The Watch Journey – what your watch says about you?

What does your watch say about you?
Well, this is a tricky question in 2025 because it is determined by many factors.
Firstly ‘dumb’ watches are no longer ‘essential’ or EDC devices. The smart watch or fitness tracker is the go to ‘watch’ for any of today’s generation of workers of students. However it is the usual do it all smart phones that is the device that we all go to in place of a old fashioned wrist watch. Like the recent reveal of the study of demographics this should be a concern for many watch makers and brands.
Like common sense or logical would dictate the clothes you wear during the typical work week often define what sort of job or station in life you have. However it is 2025 and that is deceiving and so 19th century thinking. Common sense or logic is an overrated statement in 2025 I’m sure I don’t need to provide you with more examples or should I?
As a result the watch you wear doesn’t really say much about you except perhaps that you choose to wear one for personal reasons. Personal reasons to wear a watch can include a fashion choice, self esteem, heirloom, OCD, you prefer to look at your wrist for the time rather than a screen or perhaps it is a gift marking a milestone event or people in your life you don’t wish to forget.
Unfortunately all that said, you will meet people who regard watches as a status symbol, perhaps as an indication or how much money you have – which is the usual motivation for that judgement. This is of course unfortunate because their only judgement tells you about their lot in life. The word Rolex disappointingly and often comes up in the conversation. The answer to that question is: you are not into marketing and certainly not after popular watches but want something special like Seiko Jojo’s Collab that is so niche and limited edition to 1000 pieces that is currently priceless as no one will actually or intentionally sell it to you!
COSC is just a cynical marketing exercise
