Yamaha MT-09

The Yamaha MT-09 is one of the newest naked motorcycles introduced in 2013 as a ground new design and it shows! The MT-09 cleverly avoids engine capacity stereotyping but has some great design details that lift it from its competitors. It is also known as the FZ-09 for obvious reasons.

The MT-09 specification is the new standard for Yamaha design and the key is the new 3 cylinder engine designed for fuel economy, emissions and power. The frame could be from a sport bike but isn’t likewise the rest of the seat and tank design. The colour schemes also help set it subtly apart from older naked motorcycles. I think it is one of the best looking naked motorcycles on the market in 2016 and definitely looks better in real life than pictures.

I like the MT-09 for it’s look it’s modern and easily customisable, the price tag is good for a motorcycle with descent power and tech although I think the selectable engines modes is really not necessary in this sort of motorcycle. It’s a good package and clearly popular in the key European market where naked motorcycles seem to be everywhere! In Australia we seem to be hung up on sports motorcycles which is fine as well but motorcycles like the Yamaha MT-09 deserve a second look!
