Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+

I covered the Yamaha MT-09 Tracer ten years ago when it was released and although the design has been around that long the latest version is now known as the Tracer 9, Tracer GT and Tracer 9 GT+. It’s Yamaha’s vision of a sport adventure motorcycle. 

The Adventure motorcycle class has peaked and filled with so many great models over the last 10 years including an automatic (from Honda) that you’ll be able to find a decent model to meet your Adventure touring needs or customise it further. Unfortunately their days as an in demand class are nearing an end and the next trend is already upon use. More on that in a future post! 

In terms of design the Tracer is an evolution of the original with one of the best looking fairings on an  Adventure bike that speaks off-road yet city sporter. It’s like the equivalent of a sporty SUV. I like the look and so will many. 

As far a technicalities go the updated Tracer 9 GT+ gets a slightly larger engine, so you get the now modern but not quite a revolutionary Cross-plane engine – all state of the art. But just when you think it’s all the same as before you notice the upgrade electronics package with an inertial monitoring computer and adaptive cruise control with automatic brakes and engine management. It also comes with a very fancy and updated instrument screen that allow you some control. 

The recommended retail price for the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT+ in Australia is an extraordinary over $28,000 by the time you get it on the road which is expensive. That said all motorcycles in 2025 are expensive as per any other vehicle these days thanks to extraordinary inflation over the last 2 years but is this motorcycle worth that much?  My answer is no but your  situation could be much different.
