Favourite Motorcycles 2024 – Yamaha XSR900 GP

Yamaha XSR900 GP

For 2024 the Yamaha XSR900 GP is a late addition to my list of favourite motorcycles. I couldn’t put it any better (as per their marketing material) in describing it as a retro racer styled inspired by the Yamaha YZR500 GP racing motorcycles from the 1970’s through to 1990’s. Of course the XSR900 GP is technically unlike the YZR500.

The XSR900GP is an up to date motorcycle with all the tech you expect in a sports bike in 2024. It is also very similar to the regular retro inspired XSR900. Of note is connectivity that allows read outs form the CPU axis sensor and a nice almost acceptably large 5 inch instrument panel. Note that the XSR900 is also quite different from it’s marketed inspiration, the YZR500 which that had 4 cylinders as an in-line 4 or V4 configuration, 2 stroke, carburetted and weighed closer to 100Kg.

To Yamaha’s credit and honestly it is not marketed the XSR as a YZR race replica. If they did it would quite silly although I’m sure the thought did come to mind, based on their promotional video and materials.

The Yamaha XSR900 GP is on my favourite list is because it is a bit of a looker. The only thing I would change is to include the bottom half of the fairing that is removable and the price. The XSR900 GP costs over $22,000 AUD before on road costs which is also something I would recommend changing.
