Yamaha AG200
Yamaha AG200

Welcome to the Yamaha AG200 specifications and showroom review for 2020. The AG200 F version in it’s current guise has been around for decades (over 30 years?) mostly unchanged and always marketed as a farm motorcycle or ‘agricultural motorbike’. All the road legal parts are also included which means it is LAMS or leaner friendly and can be ridden on public roads if you want to.

In terms of design the Yamaha AG200 looks ancient compared to it’s competitors. This is the only criticism I have of the AG200, is in regards to it’s dated styling but I’m sure the target buyer, the farmer wouldn’t agree as still buy it. (I just don’t think it looks like a ‘classic’.) The Yamaha AG200 is road legal and LAMS compliant which means learners can buy one too if they really want a motorcycle like this.

In terms of engine and technology there is nothing vaguely high tech to write about, which is the point of these types of motorbikes. Rather it is equipped with more useful ‘low tech’ features for the farm, so the Yamaha AG200 still has a clutch lock, dual side stands, electric and kick starter, bar work and oversized mud flaps. However the best feature not included with its competitors is an enclosed chain drive system so it is protected from the elements. The enclosed chain visually dates the AG200 to similar models from the 70’s reminiscent of the original Honda Cubs! I presume the enclosed chain is of some benefit?

Since the AG200’s engine dates back about 30 years you can be assured of durability and parts. Like most of it’s competitors the engine is not a powerful unit by 2020 standards, it’s another under stressed slugger for low speed commuting on unsealed roads and other terrain in a farm setting. This is all very class standard in case you where wondering!

As a result the Yamaha AG200 is the 3rd best motorcycle for the farm in 2019 selling 248 units. This sales number is down from 286 in 2018.
