BMW G 310 GS

I’m interrupting my travel focused posts for November 2016 for the latest motorcycle release news. Welcome to the BMW G 310 GS information/news/specification page!

Due for world wide release in 2017 the new G 310 GS  adventure motorcycle, this is one of the smallest BMW motorcycles and joins the it twin the G 310 R road going version. The G 310 GS is clearly designed to look like the smaller version of the R 12000 GS without the trade mark side horizontal pods and single sided swing arm. This is clearly an oversight and probably for the sake of cost reduction. Most manufacturer use interchangeable parts anyway for the sake of cost so BMW should have just said that. On the surface and in isolation the G 310 GS does indeed look like a GS but side by side in the showroom it does not.

Bearing in mind this is a 313cc engine so you can’t expect high performance especially without revving it – completely unlike a real GS.  Personally you can’t really call any motorcycle a GS or claim to be related to the R 1200GS without the pods or shaft drive and a single sided swing arm else it is cynical marketing ploy it truly degrades the GS brand. The G 310 GS should really have been called the Funduro eg. G 310 F in line with BMW’s cheaper off road brand.

So apart from the biggest problem with the BMW G 310 GS model being a marketing exercise it looks like a decent entry level or learner friendly motorcycle. Yes, the G 310 GS will be LAMS approved. The recommended Australian price for the BMW G 310GS is a very reasonably under $6000 excluding on road costs. It is the cheapest BMW ever (2016). Not many real reviews yet so I present the known specifications for your assessment!
