2017 Yamaha YZF-R6

Yamaha YZF-R6

The Yamaha YZF-R6 has been significantly updated for 2017! Since I’ve never really written about 600cc sport bikes in the past,  although owned 2 of them over the years it’s about time I did something about that, so checked out the latest models.

The Yamaha R6 was already one of the best 600cc sports bikes available. However 2017 sees many significant upgrades and they include the new fairing similar to the R1, revised engine management, traction control, wireless throttle, light fuel tank, revised sub frame, new suspension and brakes and a new instruments that includes a bright gear change indicator. The modifications also see a reduction in peak power but increase in torque which is interesting… so is the increase in weight despite the use of lighter materials.

Think the latest Yamaha R6 appears targeted at track day riders as all it really needs is to remove the emissions systems to release the missing power! Then again most of the current 600cc motorcycles follow the same path. As an everyday ride as with all 600cc sports motorcycles they are small power packed yet controllable package due to the distinct power band and stiff suspension, you really need to think hard – literally. The 2017 Yamaha R6 costs over $19,000 on the road which is very expensive.
