Honda CRF110F

Honda CRF110F

The 4th most popular motorcycle in Australia in 2017 was the Honda CRF110F. 1494 Honda CRF110F found new homes during the year which is a great effort. The CRF110F is   a competitor to the 5th most popular motorcycle the Kawasaki KLX110!

It is not unexpected that a Honda should show up on any ‘most popular motorcycle list’ but this one is a child focused CRF110F aka mini-bike. You can’t even ride it legally on on the road! Like it’s competitors it’s nice to see that there will be a new generation of motorcycle riders in another 10 years or so.

The mini-bike or child friendly motorcycle class is clearly competitive. (Without giving too much away from future posts in this series.) After all there are over 7000 child compatible motorcycles or mini bikes sold almost every year. It’s fun for the kids and parents.

In terms of design there is nothing special about the CRF110F, looking very much like a mini version of Honda’s other trail and enduro motorcycles for the last 10 years. Fair enough in terms of design but being popular means there is unlikely to be any changes until sales start to drop. Thankfully there are other reasons why the CRF110F has an edge on it’s competitors.

In terms of  engines, mechanical spec and technology the CRF110F features electronic fuel injection (for 2019). This feature alone is a key selling point but there’s more! It means easy starting and maintenance for bike which aren’t ridden every day or week which I suspect this motorbike will fit into. It’s also got a 5 litre fuel tank which mean fun for longer!

In the end the Honda CRF110F has the leg up in terms of tech yet the price is the same as it’s competitors. I would chose the EFI motorcycle every time purely due to the time saving required to get on the track. Finally a mini-bike that clearly has a feature not common in it’s competitors, should be rewarded with sales. That said the sales figures are for 2017 so I would expect that the 2019 sales will be biased the Honda. The CRF110F is priced at $3,249 AUD which is approximately $100 more than it’s arch rival the KLX110 but I think it’s worth the difference – don’t you?
