Yamaha YZF-R1 Tribute

yzf1000This post is all about the Yamaha YZF-R1 often called just the R1. The R1 represents Yamaha’s ultimate 1000cc sports motorcycle and is one of my favorite models after the GSX-R1000.  Anyone whose being riding motorcycles for at least 10 years will know of the explosive effect it had when first introduced in about 1998/99. I guess one of the key reasons I didn’t buy one at the time was that it lack electronic fuel injection. Of course the latest R1 not only has EFI but multimodes as well!

The Yamaha R1’s other feature as the 4 cylinder 20 valve engine – yes you heard right 5 vales per cylinder. The technology worked really well up to a point then Yamaha reverted back to 4 valve technology for what ever reason.

The R1 arguably was not the fastest or desirable sports motorcycle for that period but it was enough to make me smile and that’s worth something!

The image on the top is the special edition Yamaha YZF-R1SP from 2006 with the 20 valve engine. An R1 in this specification was essentially the ultimate version and end of line and possibly a collectable…

It was the SP model which has stuck in my mind and the one I’d love to own on day. Which reminds me to spread the word to everyone that life is very short so to do a much as you can within limits naturally! Else we don’t want another Personal or Global Financial Crisis!
