2023 Favourite motorcycles – CFMOTO 300SR

For 2023 there are only 2 models in the CFMOTO range that have held my interest for more than a passing glance which means I actually went to the manufacturers website for more information. The CFMOTO website is fancy and quick yet answered all my questions in some scrolling and 2 or 3 clicks without the need to input personal details and risking data breaches.

The first model that caught my eye and subsequently check out was the CFMOTO 300SR a very sporty, LAMS compliant hence learner friendly motorcycle. Just because it’s 300cc means that buyers after a cheap but fancy looking motorcycle with decent performance can definitely take a closer look. The SR series also extends to the new 450SR which I’ll review later.

The CFMOTO 300R takes the will known path to good looks with the traditionally sport fairing, fancy colours and decals. However unlike some brands eg. Kawasaki cost cutting – CFMOTO have not cheapened the model for example by adding a sporty design rear swing arm and not painted everything in black. The 300R looks good on the outside and underneath.

In terms of specifications the CFMOTO 300SR seemingly uses a donor KTM single cylinder EFI motor that produces decent power and torque. It’s also EURO5 on the pollution scale which means it’s a very clean. As the RAC UK says – emits 1 grain of sand and even after more than 20000km or something like that…

Now, the bogey in the room is that CFMOTO is a mainland Chinese manufacturer and motorcycles are not favoured transportation there despite making millions of the things. Some say CFMOTO is now owned by KTM some say the opposite and some say a mere partnership. It is a classic example of China’s opaque business environment. Regardless CFMOTO does not have brand identity and hampers their ability have street cred and charge normal prices. However by all accounts they make durable motorcycles.

So why is the CFMOTO 300SR on the short list of favourite aka best motorcycle to buy? Very simple looks great and it is value for money in 2023.
