Update of 22/07/2002 Any other interesting thing to consider. Look around you on your way work etc… count how many cars (specifically) you see with only one driver in it. You’ll be amazed to find that at least 90% have only the driver in it. You will then understand why there’s so much traffic.
Sure it usually demonstrates our wealth, values, personality and so forth but at what cost ? (Values which have been brainwashed to us by car company lobby groups) Our planet is dying slowly and surely. If the fuel crisis had not happened cars would have used up all the reserves of fuel and polluted much of the planet. The forests are dying in Germany, Mexicans, Californians, Italians etc… all suffacting until recently. Each trying to solve the problem with some success in their own ways. I’m not a geenie in anyway what so ever, but seeing so much pollution on a recent trip to the Hawkesbury really brought it to my attention.

Anyway part of the solution to our personal transport is 2 wheels. For those in NSW, imagine one lane reserved for 2 wheelers like scooters and motorbikes. Traffic and pollution will be reduced along with travel times. The problem is how to change social values and government policy. (I will talk about buses and trains in a later topic)

Well, you might ask what about our ecomony, lifestyle, ego ? I guess its a priority thing. Do you want to spend the rest of your life travelling to work on our own car in relative comfort but in a traffic filled and stress inducing environment because you want protection from acid rain and polluted smog, road rage – need I continue ?
