Yamaha TT-R50E

The 3rd most popular motorcycle in Australia in 2017 was the Yamaha TTR50E. There where 1833 Yamaha TTR50E sold in Australia in 2017, which is an impressive tally considering the numbers of other motorcycles being sold.

There a a number of 50cc motorcycles or mini-bikes for sale and the TTR50E is one of the leaders in sales charts. Why its is so popular compared to other 50cc in the class? I think its arguably the smallest ‘motorbike’ for for kids at the moment.

The mini-bike or child friendly motorcycle class is clearly competitive. (Without giving too much away from future posts in this series.) After all there are over 7000 child compatible motorcycles or mini bikes sold almost every year. It’s fun for the kids and parents.

In terms of design the TTR50E is very similar to Yamaha’s other trail and enduro motorcycles and it is a nice shade of blue and one of the lowest seat height I’ve seen, hence some of the reason why it sells.

In terms of  engines, mechanical spec and technology the TTR50E is quite conventional. The engine is a 4 stroke, carbureted, electric start, auto cam chain tensioner and chain driven etc… However it’s seat height and overall dimensions are tiny so it’ll probably fit virtually any regular child under 10 years old can ride it. It’s not the most easy to maintain mini-bike in the class which should count against it but it’s competitors are no different.

The Yamaha TT-R50E is a completely conventional small motorbike. The Yamaha TT-R50E sells for about $2000 which is class average.  It is however a great starting point for many kids to progress to bigger road and off road motorcycles later. I also think the sales numbers for the TT-R50E are deceptive as this is not the only Yamaha mini-bike in the ‘Most popular motorcycles in Australia list.
