Motorcycle industry in China

China is a country on the rise and it follows in the foot steps of every other country that’s ever embarked on the long road to economic power house and super power. It is no different in that it has the benefit of other more advanced countries and technology to help its rise. Unfortunately their industry tends to make the news for the wrong reasons namely blatant copies of designs and industrial theft. Which is incidentally no different to how the other countries made the step in the last few hundred years or so to leadership as opposed to following.

Like India, China has equally large motorcycle riding population by necessity and I always wondered why there has not been a leading motorcycle manufacturer like their emerging car ones and this post I read on motorcycles and China Cycle World but more importantly the original article by Alan Cathcart explains it to many degrees. However I must also stress and add that there are cultural social (aka educational system – Meaning their focus on being able to memorise and arrive at conclusions already established rather than creative thinking.) and political influences that make their industrial environment quite different from other historical developments.

Since the Chinese motorcycle industry in a bit of a slump at the moment it may be a case of survival of the fittest in the sense of a true market economy. So it will be interesting to see if China can develop manufacturers and brands that rival those of it’s neighbours like Samsung and Honda for example.
